Temporary Works Coordination

Suitable for

The course is aimed to give all members of the construction process an awareness of the latest advances in the subject, together with a refreshing update on the basic principles. It is of benfit to those experienced trades-based supervisors, foremen, appointed temporary works co-ordinators, graduates, planners, lecturers, site engineers, and others related to the procurement, design, checking, inspection and approval of temporary works.

Content

This one day course is intended to give guidance on the latest requirements for Temporary Works Coordinators and the procedural control of ALL temporary works to the new BS5975:2008. It will also update delegates on today’s use of temporary works in building and civil engineering. Subjects will include shallow trenches, understanding of loads on simple falsework, fast track ideas for striking of slabs using crack width as the criterias, and the actual loads involved in backpropping of multi-storey buildings. The use of scaffolding to the new TG20:07 with scaffold designations and safe heights is included in this course.

This course is aimed at giving an awareness of temporary works and will not involve structural calculations. Extensive handouts will be issued to reduce note taking, and the course is well illustrated. Case studies and simple tutorials are included in the course.

Objectives

Delegates will be introduced to the following:

  • management of temporary works - duties of coordinators, designers, TW supervisors, CDM regulations and guidance
  • trenches - general considerations
  • scaffolding - safe load capacities
  • loads - scaffolding, falsework, loading towers, wind loads
  • temporary works above ground
  • stability - design considerations
  • striking slabs backpropping
